Montgomery’s recruitment is picking up fast

Asa Montgomery is the hottest name on the recruiting trail this summer.

The class of 2027 small forward of Powder Springs, Georgia, is a name every college program came to see since the July Live period started. He has added to his offers list since the evaluation period ended.

North Carolina, Oregon, Kentucky, Connecticut, Maryland, Louisville, and LSU have offers since the end of EYBL. These are added to the ones he already had before, which comes to a total of 22 offers and counting for sure. Michigan State and Duke were on the sideline for a few of his games during Peach Jam.

While the list continues to grow and Montgomery fields calls, he hasn’t necessarily narrowed down any list.

“I don’t have a top five yet,” he said. “Many of them are breaking down my film and we’re just talking.”

Montgomery, 17, was spectacular for AOT during Nike’s EYCL Circuit regular season averaging 27.9 points, 10.2 rebounds, 3 assists and 1.4 steals per game. He was productive in international play for the U17 USA National Team. USA won FIBA U17 Men’s World Cup gold in Instanbul, Turkey where he averaged 9.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.3 steals through seven games. 

Montgomery, from Hillgrove High, is ranked in the Top-50 nationally. He continues to improve and it is part of what he wants from a program moving forward.

“Look for a family type school,” Montgomery said. “A school that is going to put me in the best position on where I am trying to go. A school that will push me past my limit.”

Seeing his sudden rise is not foreign to his high school coach. 

“I have watched him grown and become the player he is,” Hillgrove’s Greg Moultrie said. “He never ran from the work. Now, he is embracing the entire process. Whatever program gets him they are getting a total basketball player.”
