Delancy commits to Houston

After a successful run to win the Nike EYBL Peach Jam, Oneal Delancy has committed to join head coach Kelvin Sampson’s Houston Cougars.

Delancy picked the Cougars over Florida, Florida State, Maryland, Ohio State and South Florida.

The 6-foot-3 Montverde Academy guard had made all his visits and was just drawn to Houston. He helped the Florida Rebels averaged 16.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.4 assists during the EYBL season, while averaging 15.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in the eight games played to secure the Peach Jam title for the first time since 2013.

”The competition, the intensity, the hard work, and learning, and growing through the journey,” Delancy told Coogs 365 Sports why he picked Houston.

Delancy’s commitment gives Sampson a sixth top-50 recruit the last three classes in H-town. So, what can he expect from the Florida native.

”He’s getting a warrior, who is all about winning,” Montverde Academy head coach Steve Turner said. “He’s dedicated to his craft and is going to outwork all who are around.

“His super power is his ability to score when you need him to.”

This was evident during last weekend’s run to a Peach Jam title. Delancy deferred to Cayden Daughtry through the eight games at Peach Jam. However, when the team needed a basket, Delancy showed up and produced.

“He learned to play with other good players,” said Turner, on what is something new about Delancy’s game. “He has been able to understand when they have to get theirs, to when it’s time to get his.”

Delancy was Montvede’s second leading scorer (15 points per game) on a roster with balance scoring this past season.
