Powder Springs, GA – The wait is finally over. One of the hottest high school prospects in the country is off the board.

Asa Montgomery has committed to the Duke, giving the Blue Devils a top 10 prospect in the Class of 2027. He has shot up the top 10 on several recruiting boards after torching Nike’s EYCL circuit with AOT. The 6-foot-7 Hillgrove (GA) High forward had every coach in the country recruiting him.

Montgomery picked Duke over North Carolina, Providence, UConn, Georgia Tech, LSU, Auburn, Florida, Arkansas, Kentucky, Arizona and Louisville. He visited Durham in early October.

”When I went on the visit it was just this feeling I got and knew this was the place I wanted to be,” Montgomery told 247 Sports. “they showed me how I would fit in their system and just explained how I can make a big difference on the team.”

Montgomery joins Australian guard Luke Paul and top-15 recruit Wisconsin forward Kager Knueppel.

The Powder Springs (GA) natives recruitment picked up as coaches starting noticing his production with AOT. Montgomery led EYCL in scoring, averaging 27.9 points, 10.2 rebounds and three assists per game. Any time the Atlanta-based organization played college programs lined up to position themselves for an opportunity to get him on their campus. He went from a top 100 player to top 10 leaving Augusta.

Being an elite scorer is nothing new for Montgomery. Last season, he helped the Hawks advance to the Georgia Class 6A Final Four. His game took off earning a spot on USA Basketball’s U17 national team before they captured gold at FIBA U17 Wold Cup in Turkey.

Montgomery played a role and averaged 9.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.3 steals in 17 minutes per game.

Showing he can play various roles on a star studded team is when Duke head coach Jon Scheyer locked in on him. Montgomery said, “He can play a role form day one and grow into more in time.”

Montgomery’s an athletic forward capable of playing inside and on the perimeter. His climb this summer has propelled a 5-star prospect and now will be in the McDonald’s All-American conversation.
