Eichelberger commits to Louisiana-Monroe

Americus, GA – Amir Eichelberger did not waste any time finding a home.

The South Georgia Tech College product has committed to the University of. Louisiana-Monroe on Sunday night. He selected the Sun Betl Conference school over Clark Atlanta and Savannah State. While other programs were expressing interest in the Atlanta native, he was intrigued with the new changes taking place at 700 University Ave.

”I chose ULM because the culture and the coaching (staff),” Eichelberger said. “From speaking to the coaches at ULM, the coaches made the visit and experience amazing for me. I loved the environment, the energy of the practice, and the vision they had for me in the future.”

The Warhawks staff is entering season one after taking the helm last March. They put together a class through the portal, JUCO transfers and high school players. ULM signed 14 new players on this years roster, which includes several players from the Peach State like Mike White (Berkmar High), and Robert Cowherd (Grayson High).

Eichelberger played with White at Lincoln Trail College for one season. Seeing some familiar faces at ULM helped in his decision.

”Yeah, I did play with Mike at Lincoln Trail,” he said. “He is a great guy on and off the court. His work ethic and the way he carries himself while being on teh court is something I could us in my game. I (also) spoke to those guys and they were cool. They went to surrounding high schools (in Georgia) and actually one knew some of the people I knew, so it felt like the conversations flowed after that.”

The commitment is not behind him, Eichelberger is now ready to focus on South Georgia Tech’s season which starts next week with the JUCO Advocate Jamboree in Emerson, Georgia on Oct. 4.

”The goal of this year is ultimately to win the (GCAA) conference and go to Hutch (for the National tournament) with my teammates,” he said. “A personal goal, I have for myself though, is to grow as a player and a person.”

As his focus is to see the Jets soar to great heights, Eichelberger wants fans to understand something about him before donning a Warhawks uniform.

”I want the fans to know that I am coming there on a mission, to get better and win with those guys,” he said. “I’m gonna work hard and always put my best foot forward in everything I do.”
