McDonald’s All-American game has New York flavor

ATLANTA, GA – The 2019 McDonald’s All-American game had a New York flare about it Wednesday night.

New Yorker’s Cole Anthony, Isaiah Stewart and Precious Achiuwa helped the East beat the West 115-100 in the 42nd edition in Atlanta. Anthony was named the MVP after scoring 14 points, seven assists and five rebounds with zero turnovers.

Stewart, a University of Washington commit, was exceptional as well scoring 16 points and grabbing five rebounds, while Achiuwa scored a game-high 22 points and pulling down nine rebounds. Achiuwa, who attends Montverde Academy, is uncommitted and resides in Brooklyn. But it was Anthony who captured the biggest award of the night.

“It means a lot, I don’t even want to take most of the credit for this,” said Anthony on ESPN2. “There are couple of dudes on the team who could’ve been named the MVP,”

The Oak Hill Academy, from Manhattan, got everyone involved with his unselfish play. This lead to Stewart, from Rochester, to get decent looks both in the open floor and inside against Memphis commit James Wiseman, while giving up four inches.

Wiseman finished with a West team-high 13 points and six rebounds. Villanova bound Jeremiah Robinson-Earl and Kentucky commit Tyrese Maxey also tied Wiseman.

Anthony will make a college decision in April. He is down to North Carolina, Georgetown, Notre Dame, Wake Forest amd Oregon in no particular order.
