CHARLOTTE, NC – The basketball universe ascends in Charlotte for the 2019 NBA All-Star Basketball Without Borders Global Camp this weekend.
Some of the top 63 boys and girls from 31 countries and regions will travel to the Queen City for the fifth annual National Basketball Association (NBA) and the International Basketball Federation (FIBA). This is part of the 2019 NBA All-Star game with the camp starting Friday Feb. 15 – Sunday Feb. 17 at the Queens University of Charlotte Levine Center for Wellness and Recreation. Nike will serve as the official partner.
The roster is peppered with talented players from all over the world. Two notable players we have seen this season are Victor Rosa and Jermaine Miranda. These two players were members of the bronze medal U17 Puerto Rican National team. Now they are the only players from the Caribbean playing in this global camp. The third representative of Puerto Rico is Julian Strawther.
While Rosa and Miranda know each other from the island both had a chance to play each other in the high school level. Rosa plays for Central Pointe Christian Academy while Miranda is a member of NBA Academy Latin America.
Miranda helped lead NBA Academy to a victory over Rosa’s CPCA team during a Thanksgiving Tournament. Here is our report about these Class of 2020 prospects.
Miranda is a 6’3 guard with tremendous strength. He is an excellent all ball defender. The Puerto Rican native scores at all three levels of the floor. His motor is relentless on both ends of the court. He knows how to make winning plays down the stretch.
Rosa is one of the most efficient shooters in the Class of 2020. He is shooting it about 39-percent from beyond the arc. This 6-foot-6 shooters form and rotation is effortless. Many have called him the Puerto Rican Kalyan’s Thompson of the Golden State Warriors, who will be at the All-Star game. Rosa currently holds offers from Austin Peay, Florida Gulf Coast, Arkansas State, Florida International, Florida Atlantic, Wake Forest and Arizona State. Many programs will learn about this player when he gets on the travel circuit.
