Macon, GA – For the first time in 30 years the Georgia High School state championship is headed back to Clinch County.
The Lady Panthers’ defensive intensity and offensive execution helped them take a lead, which it never relinquished before holding on to beat Lake Oconee Academy, 45-42, at the Macon Centerplex. This is Clinch County’s first state championship since 1993.
Tyana Dorsey was not about to let things get out of hand for the Lady Panthers. The junior center finished with 19 points and 20 rebounds. Her presence inside was too much for the Lady Titans. A’miyeon Grady chipped in with 11 points. Amariah Dean had nine points and 11 rebounds.
This is the fifth state title in Clinch County school history.
Clinch County (27-4) went on a 7-0 run late in the third and in the beginning of the fourth. The Panthers took a 37-36 lead before the teams traded baskets for the remainder of the game. Dorsey’s layup with 2:32 to play in the game helped give Clinch County a three-point cushion.
Lake Oconee Academy (28-3), the defending state champions, struggled late against a much taller Clinch County team. The Titans were outscored 15-6 in the fourth quarter and outrebound 43-31.
Jada Williams led the Lady Titans with 18 points. Hannah Heinen finished with 10 points.
