Breakdown Showcase has players step up

By Robert Alfonso Jr.

TAMPA, FL – The seventh edition of the Breakdown Showcase had a variety of players looking to get recognized before the start of their respective seasons. Some players came in with offers in hand while others propelled their name onto the scouts in attendance list of prospects to watch.

Here is who caught our eye.

2020 Kobe Gibbs (6’7, Oldsmar Christian) is an intriguing prospect. Defensively, he is an enigma. At 6-foot-7 Gibbs can cover up a lot of mistakes made by teammates. He has the ability and athleticism to deflect or alter shots. Gibbs can also cradling in rebounds outside of his area, offensively, he finishes above the rim while also absorbing contact around the rim with his slim frame. Gibbs can knock down the 15-footer as well.

2020 Jacob Crews (6’7, Superior Collegiate) is a coaches dram from the perimeter. He was as automatic from deep as the sun coming up in a Florida. The recent North Florida commit knocked down jumper after jumper throughout the showcase. He is also capable of taking it to the bucket and finishes above the rim in the open floor.

2019 Michael Gavin (6’0, Lake Mary Prep) was easily the most surprising player at the showcase. At first glance, he looks like just an average player. However, looks are extremely deceiving. Gavin can handle the ball as if it was on a string. His ability to up the floor with court vision, quickness and using angles made him one the better floor generals of the day. He can knock down shots from all over the floor. However, those things are not what watch catches ones eye. Gavin was the most athletic guard under 6’1 in the gym. His bounce is sneaky and occasionally jaw dropping. Coaches looking for a solid college level player need to take a look at Mr. Gavin.

2020 Jadrien Tracey (6’6, Oldsmar Christian) can establish himself as the most dominant player on the floor in any given moment. He is an athletic menace who plays both ends of the floor with plenty of energy. Tracey is capable of scoring from all three levels of the floor. He can also set the tempo in the open floor. His ability to cause havoc on the defensive end makes his a prospect who will garnish plenty of attention.

2019 Jose Romero (6’0, East Bay HS)  is a floor general many college coaches seek. He is a hard nose yet smooth floor general. Romero is a pass first who can score willingly.
