Marietta, GA – Alexander is known for its relentless defense but its shooting is what helped it cruise to victory.
The Cougars put on a shooting display before cruising to a 79-68 win over Butler Tuesday at the Lemon Street Classic in Marietta.
Seniors Noah Melson and Jay Quan Nelson took turns in knocking down shots. Melson, who has signed with Tennessee-Chattanooga, nailed six 3-pointers for a team-high 21 points. His shooting became contagious because Nelson hit three from beyond the arc for 11 points. Whenever the Cougars weren’t hitting from the outside, junior Braedan Lue dominated the interior. He finished with 19 points, which included a three-pointer and a posterized dunk. As a team, Alexander hit 13 3-pointers.
Butler competed heavily in the first-half but it did not have enough firepower to keep up with Alexander. The Bulldogs (2-5) played to the end defensively despite its minimal scoring opportunities. Leading the way for Butler was senor Zy’Quan Grant. The fiesty poitn guard finished with a team-high 19 points. He was the only Bulldogs player in double figures.
