Lemon Street Classic: Wilson’s rebound gives NCCS the win

By Robert Alfonso Jr.

Marietta, GA – The biggest test of a person’s mental makeup is how they handle adversity. Those who handle it well get positive returns.

Albert Wilson’s rebound and basket helped North Cobb Christian beat Paulding County, 63-62, to win the 2022 Marietta Power championship bracket of the Lemon Street Classic on Tuesday at Marietta High. This is the second time this season the Eagles have beaten the Patriots. Both teams opened the season against each other with NCCS winning 66-65.

In this second meeting, it was evident both teams knew each other. They were not giving the other much of an advantage. NCCS went to the free throw line trailing by two. Wilson got inside position for a put back and a foul. This sent the Eagles bench and fans into a frenzy.

However, the game was not over just yet. Paulding County had a chance to win the game but its shot at the buzzer with :01 second to play fell short. NCCS celebrated at half court before being presented its championship trophy.

Gabe Bolden led the Eagles with 21 points. Wilson finished with 16 points. CJ Wallace had 11 points.

The Patriots’ Frantzyr Chardavoine delivered the top scoring performance of the tournament pouring in 35 points. Khalil Jones added 13 points.
