Athens, GA – Shooting and sharing the basketball is something the Etowah High program prides itself in doing. Each player is always looking to cheer someone’s success.
This unselfish attitude and high-level shooting were enough to help the Eagles soar past Cedar Grove, 77-72, at the Georgia Interstate Hoops Classic.
Etowah (10-7) was led by Brandon Rechsteiner. The senior point guard nailed one deep 3-pointer after another, including a late jumper in the fourth quarter to give the Eagles the lead for good. He finished with a career-high 31 points, which included nailing six 3-pointers. This earned the Virginia Tech signee the Most Valuable Player award.
However, he was not the only Eagle getting his shot off. Dimitri Angelakos and Mason Etter held their own shooting exhibition. Angelakos, a junior, hit six 3-pointers for 18 points. He too was hitting them from well beyond the three-point line. Etter finished with 14 points and reached the 1,000 career points milestone.
Cedar Grove (11-4) showed grit and character in fighting back from a double-digit deficit. The Saints had three players in double figures, who were catalysts in the comeback. Senior Darius Reynolds banged inside finishing with team-high 21 points. Elliott Colson Jr. chipped in with 20 points. Freshman Emmanuel Green added 19 points.
