Lithonia grinds out a defensive victory

By Robert Alfonso Jr.

Athens, GA – Lithonia hangs its hat on being a hardnosed defensive team.

The Bulldogs lived up to it with a 53-47 win over Johnson-Savannah Saturday night in the Georgia Interstate Hoops Classic.

Lithonia’s defense helped get its offense started behind the play of Caleb Taylor. The senior guard went on a scoring spree in the fourth quarter before finishing the game with a game-high 23 points. He was named the game’s Most Valuable Player. This late performance was enough to help the Bulldogs extend and hold the lead.

Joshua Daniels was the only other Lithonia player in double figures (10 points).

The Atomsmashers (13-3) hit a small drought offensively but continued fighting. Leading the way for the Savannah ball club was Joshua Quarterman, who finished with a team-high 13 points. Senior guard Antonio Baker chipped in with 10 points.
