By Robert Alfonso Jr.

Cummings, GA – One of the final jamboree’s before the start of the high school season allows coaches to see what they have to continue to prepare for before practice officially begins in two weeks.

The Southern Hoops Report Jamboree was packed with high school teams and college coaches looking to get a jump on the season at Dobbs Ferry.

Here are some players who turned heads throughout the event.

Alfonzo Ross | 2023 | Woodville-Tompkins | is the epitome of a point guard. He knows how to run the team and is an extension of head coach Lenny Williams. Ross is shifty and can get downhill with his quick first-step. He helps change the pace of the game too suitable for the teams needs. The way he gets buckets is smooth with a variety of finishes. He is also a solid defender. Ross currently holds offers from Vorhees and Murrayville

Deston Christian | 2024 | Walnut Grove | was certainly opened up many eyes on the day. The 6-foot-5 forward was locked in on both ends of the floor. He reached deep into his offensive bag and put on a clinic on finishing at every possible level. There were tough shots in traffic, double-teams and from beyond the arc. He was hard to keep off the boards too because the desire to limit the opposing team from second chances was impressive. Good motor and a high feel for the game will make is hard to imagine Christian not averaging a double-double this season for the Warriors.

Kahmare Holmes | 2024 | Archer | has created a buzz at the Lawrenceville school since the start of the summer. The former Charlotte. North Carolina product gives the Tigers a versatile guard at 6-foot-4. He brings quick hands along with a skill set to play inside and on the perimeter. Holmes excels in the open court. He will grow in Archer’s defensive system.

Wes Walker | 2023 | Woodville-Tompkins | is a nice looking post player. He gives the Wolverines size and interior presence on both ends of the floor. His agility allows him the opportunity to compete along at a high level. He has a nose for the basketball where he rebounds its really well in traffic. Look for him to hold it down for the Savannah program. He holds an offer from Murrayville.

Mekhi Turner | 2024 | Maynard Jackson | is an impressive 6-foot-7 interior player. He has a good mix of size, agility, strength, and competitive fire. Turner is a lefty with good hands and touch around the basket.

CJ Hyland | 2023 | Grayson | is at a new school and looks extremely comfortable running the Rams program. This shifty guard plays fast and is always applying pressure on both ends of the floor.
