ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – Over the long season of travel basketball good teams will see each other more than once. For the second time in as many weeks, Team Takeover Black and Team Final Blue found themselves playing for another championship.
Team Takeover won the last title during the first Live period of July and did the same thing at Live in AC with a 58-42 victory over Team Final at Richard Stockton University Sports.
Brandon Slater led all scorers with 22 points, while teammate Andrew Friberg chipped with 13.
Over the course of the summer, the Washington DC has amassed a 40-5 record. It has also won 24 of its last 25 games. A team peeking like this late in the summer.
“At this age, they are young and trying to prove they can play,” Takeover coach Kevin Groves said. “We are trying to show them how to win because that carries over in life. These kids are really tired but wining trumps all of that.”
Despite all the winning, the Takeover coaching staff keeps everything in perspective. They never want to take a team for granted, regardless of the results from the previous meeting.
“Team Final is a great program,” Groves said. “We try to treat every game and opportunity differently. The moment we act like we’ve beaten them before that is when we can slip up. We are probably going to see them a whole lot more because they have a good team.”
The Philadelphia team did everything it could but it was not enough against Takeover, which controlled the game from the opening tip. Corey Greer led Team Final with 17 points. Justin Anderson added 11 points.
