CP3 National Middle School Combine: Part I

By Robert Alfonso Jr.

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The annual CP3 National Middle School Combine brought together some of the most talented players in the 2023-2025 class.

Each player ascended North Carolina looking to compete against many of their peers before the start of the basketball season. They all also came looking for a chance to earn an invite to the 2019 Rising Stars camp in August.

While it has not yet been revealed which players earned the coveted invitation, there were several players who made a strong case to be considered.

Here are a number of players who caught our attention throughout the weekend.

A double dose of the Bewley brothers

Twin brothers Matthew and Ryan Bewley are names everyone will remember. At 6-foot-8, the siblings showed the ability to play both ends of the floor. When the twins played against one other, it left many wondering what the 1-on-1 matchups in the driveway, at practice or on the asphalt looked like.

Matthew is coming along better offensively. He has solid moves inside for a player his size and excellent control. Ryan is a defensive energizer who will occasionally posterize an opponent at any given time. The Miami, FL, natives, who played for Florida United, have high motors and are excellent rebounders. They both move well on the perimeter for players their size.

The way they played this weekend is impressive since they have only been playing for three years. One can only imagine what some more polishing of their game will look like in eight months.

Sunshine State hoopers shine

The talent loaded event was peppered with Floridians who will make sure the country understands the state is more than a vacation destination.

2023 Jayden Hastings (Orlando, FL) is a lengthy 6-foot-7 athlete with great hands. His upside starts with is ability to rebound beyond his area. He also runs the floor well and can finish in transition.

2023 David DJ Delancy (Miami, FL) is a good size lefty guard with all the goods. He has a great frame for a young player. His court awareness dropped dimes off. He can score from all three levels on the floor.

2023 Tristan Gross (Pinellas Park, FL) is a player who will grow on you the more you watch him play. He is the ultimate glue guy. He makes things work at just the right time whether it is an open jumper or a key rebound. This youngster plays with poise even though there were some chaotic moments around him during camp.

2023 Tynan Becker (North Point, FL) is easily an intriguing prospect in this group of Floridians. He is long and rangy with the ability to play on the inside and out. His ability to create scoring opportunities based on his ability to read angles. He plays with a high motor on both ends of the floor with no letting up.

2023 Torian Roberts (Orlando, FL) made sure to put players on notice. If you dribbled the ball anywhere within arms reach he was taking it from them.

2023 Jordan Lanier (Brandon, FL) is a fearless competitor. At 5-foot-6 he will is it up with whomever on either end of the court. He also showed the ability to knock down shots from all over the floor.
