Marietta, GA – McDonough High basketball used its athleticism, length, shooting, and speed for a wire-to-buzzer winner over Pope to capture the Marietta Power Championship. The Warhawks’ 74-57 victory was in dominating fashion on Saturday.
Keenan Gray, Zion Green, Zaiden Greene, and Nigel Thomas set the pace of the game for the Warhawks.
Gray got things going for McDonough. The senior guard is a defensive specialist, who forced several turnovers before showing off an improved jumper. He nailed shots from all over the floor. This helped get him and his teammates going. He finished with night with 17 points, two rebounds, five assists, one steal, and two blocks.
Green joined the scoring and defensive festivities. He ran the floor with purpose finishing with 15 points, three rebounds, three assists, and one steal. Thomas picked things up from the second quarter on. The 6-foot-7 junior scored 16 points, primarily from beyond the arc hitting four three-pointers. Greene helped lift the scoring load knocking down four three-pointers for 14 points.
Pope was unable to get into any rhythm against the Warhawks’ tenacious defense. The Greyhounds continued fighting throughout the game behind Zach Bleshoy’s effort. The lefty guard poured in 19 points. Deven Royal added 16 points.
