Devin Vassell Elite Camp always returns to Peachtree Ridge

Suwanee, GA – Devin Vassell stood on the logo of the Peachtree Ridge High School basketball court taking in the environment last Saturday.

Why wouldn’t the former Lions player enjoy the excitement being displayed on the court he once dominated?

The Devin Elite Basketball Camp was entering its fifth year and it continues to grow. There were more than 60 players in the gym from across the state. They were in the gym looking to achieve the same dreams Vassell is currently living.

“It’s a blessing to come back to the school that really made me who I am today,” Vassell said. “Being able to give back to kids who are in my shoes and give them hope. At the end of the day, there is a goal they want to reach and it’s attainable.”

Vassell is coming off one of a strong season with the San Antonio Spurs. He finished the 2025-2026 season averaging 13.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game as San Antonio lost in the NBA Finals to the New York Knicks. In the years with the Spurs, Vassell continues to be an intricate piece to the organization.

Getting to the NBA was only a dashing dream for the 25-year old in high school. He was a relatively unknown recruit going into his senior season at Peachtree Ridge. Presbyterian College was the only school to offer him. Then Florida State assistant coach Charleston Young made an offer after seeing him. Vassell picked up others offers from Texas Tech, North Florida, and Stetson after the Seminoles.

“It’s a blessing to give back to this community,” he said. “To be someone to have little offers and to be in the league is an anomaly.”

Vassell, who averaged 21.6 points and 8.9 rebounds a game as a senior, played for the ACC school for two years before San Antonio selected him 11th overall in the 2020 draft.

“To have elite level kids and to touch that community to give them hope,” Vassell said. “I am trying to give them the wisdom and knowledge to use in high school. By the time they get into college they will be ready to go.

“These are the little things I love to be apart of because if I was in their shoes I would be soaking it in like a sponge.”

Sharing secrets of the game positioning and shooting, Vassell dropped a nugget for each player.

“Do something that is going to make you stand out,” he said. “What is separating you (from everyone else)?”
