OTR Thanksgiving Showcase: notebook

Lawrenceville, GA – The annual On the Radar Hoops Thanksgiving Showcase has always served up hardy matchups before the holiday. This year was no different at Central Gwinnett High School.

Basketball fans had a chance to see some heavy hitters they will see in March again. These games are what helps set the vibes for the basketball season ahead. Here are some guys who had strong showings Wednesday night.

Grayson’s defense clamps down on Saints

The Grayson Rams are going to be a hard out. They started out slow against Cedar Grove, but once things started picking up, the Rams were full steam ahead. Grayson pushed the tempo and it fired up the top team in the state. There were dunks by Jacob Wilkins, steals by Caleb Holt, and bully moves inside with Amir Taylor. Then you implement KJ Garris on the glass, which allowed Chris McLavish to set the tempo. Grayson win 71-49. While most high school coaches will look at the next game basketball fans in the state have circled December 7 when the Rams play Wheeler.

Central Gwinnett gets back to winning

The Black Knights program is going through highs and lows. They got back in the win column after its four-game winning streak was snapped. Getting there wasn’t easy. Isaiah Sloan gave Central a spark with his defense and shooting. The junior, who finished with 10 points, hit some critical buckets late to help the Black Knights sustain a lead. His effort ignited the team. Brayden Holiday led the Black Knights with 18 points.

Milton bounces back

After a grueling heavyweight game, the Eagles shot the ball exceptionally well. Nathan Earl came out smoking early and it didn’t stop for Milton. He finished with 15 points. Dhvanish Vaghela helped continue the aerial assault going 4-for-7 from three point range to finish with 12 points. Jaydon Cole nailed some big shots throughout the game ending up with 10 points.
