Wolverines get a solid road victory

By Robert Alfonso Jr.

Athens, GA – The standard for the Woodville-Tompkins programs is the standard. There is no deviating from what is expected of them.

The Savannah-based school were pushed to its limit by both its coach and opponent before holding off both. Woodville-Tompkins beat Cedar Shoals 56-48 in the final game of the Georgia Interstate Hoops Classic Saturday night.

Wolverines’ coach Lenny Williams stayed on top of his team to apply pressure and to play fast. He always was coaching them up to be in the right place. Those instructions led to scoring opportunities, which Alfonzo Ross took advantage of in the end.

The senior guard muscled his way into the lane absorbing contact, while getting Woodville-Tompkins on the scoreboard. He finished with 25 points. Many of them were timely baskets to help the Wolverines extend the lead over the Jaguars. This earned him the Most Valuable Player award. Wes Walker, a Maryville College signee, added 14 points.

Cedar Shoals was led by Devin Hubbard and Dewon Foote scoring 12 points apiece.
