BROOKLYN, NY – One of New York City’s premier point guards Shamorie Ponds is having a memorable summer.

The Brooklyn native has excelled on the travel circuit, several national camps, been wooed by a number of college programs and is getting to finish the summer in his hometown on national television for the Elite 24.

“It meant a lot to play against the top players in the country,” Ponds said. “This is like a dream.”

A year ago, the Thomas Jefferson High product was at the Brooklyn Bridge game watching wanting to play. He worked on it and things have developed quite well.

He had a number of schools make offers before cutting his list to four Providence, St. John’s Minnesota and Creighton. Ponds visited the latter and did not have any other visits scheduled.

However, he did hint at a decision to come soon. Many thought it would be announced at the Elite 24 game. Wherever Ponds decides to attend the program will get a leader and one who is motivated.

In the latest listings of national rankings, Ponds is ranked 42nd by ESPN, 45th by Yahoo Sports, 63rd by 247 Sports and 78th by Scout respectfully. These rankings will not stop him from reaching some of the goals he set for the summer back in March, which the point guard posted on Instagram.
