MANHEIM, PA – One would be hard pressed to find an evenly matched championship game.

Nike Baltimore Elite and NY Rens went at it the entire game until the waning seconds. Baltimore cradled a loose ball rebound before knocking down some free throws to beat Rens 56-50 for the Hoop Group Summer Jam Fest at Spooky Nook Sports.

Immanuel Quickely scored a game-high 17 points, to lead the Baltimore team. He was named the tournaments Most Valuable Player. DeShawn Phillips added 12 points. Darius Pickett chipped in with 10 points.

“We had to play within ourselves,” Elite coach Christopher Gaines said. “Everybody needed to do their job and play their role.”

The Baltimore also had a goal in mind.

“This is the time in July where we want to show what we have and not early in the season,” Gaines said. “We won this last year and come back to be defending champs.

“That was our goal.”

Leading the way for the Adidas Rens was Molloy High’s John Herring with 10 points. He was the only player with double figure scoring.
