Heading into Friday night’s game, AJ White knew one of his personal goals was within reach. The Chattahoochee senior reached the 2,000 career points total early.
At the 1:40 mark in the second quarter, the unsigned guard raced down the left side of the court. He elevated to knockdown a smooth looking mid-range jumper just inside the three-point line. Teammates and coaches mobbed White at halfcourt before he was given a memorable basketball marking the historical moment. A week earlier, he became the Cougars’ all-time leading scorer. His current mark is 2,016 points and counting.
The game looked as easy for the Cougars (6-0, 2-0) as they went on to beat Johns Creek 86-71. White finished with 32 points and six assists. Keith Murray added 19, while Tomiwa Adetosoye poured in 14 points. Gil Matondo had 10 points and four blocks.
Aiden Temple led the Gladiators (2-3, 1-2) with 26 points and five rebounds. He was four-for-seven from the three-point line. Sam Witt had 19 points. McRae Ball finished with 15 points and seven rebounds.
