Canada girls International Jr. NBA champions

ORLANDO, FL – Once the feeling out process was over Canada showed exactly why it was considered the heavy favorite to win the International championship.

Canada was fluid in every facet of the game. They controlled both ends of the floor as it went on to beat Latin America 70-54 to win the Jr. NBA International girls championship.

Afterwards, they all had a chance to meet former NBA great añadido Jr. NBA ambassador Dwayne Wade, who presented them with their title.

Canada plays the defending champion Central girls at 1:30 pm Saturday.

While the Canadians only had one player in double figures it’s defense balance is what won them the game. Canada forced Latin America into 31 turnovers. Most of the time Canada was doubling the ball and applying pressure on the defensive end of the floor.

Leading the way for Canada, however, was Caidence Amartey who recorded a team-high 13 points. Milana Nenadic and Tene Smith added nine points apiece.

Latin America (4-1) attempted a comeback in the third quarter behind its ability to knock down the three-pointer. They just were not capable of getting over that defensive pressure being applied by Canada.

Dagmar Hentschel led Latin America with 15 points. Ana Carolina Ferreira Lopes added 13 points. Marcella Prande Freitas chipped in with 10 points. Letycia Miranda Vasconcelos finished with eight points and 13 rebounds.
