2022-2023 Boys Basketball Preview: Woodville Tompkins

Woodville Tompkins

Head Coach: Lenny Williams

Region: A Region 3 Division 1

2021-22 Record: 18-11

Key returning players: PG, Alfonzo Ross, Sr; F, Wes Walker, Sr

Players to watch: G, Terrence Bush, Jr; G, Tyler Grant, Jr

Past Season’s Accomplishments: Region Tournament Runner-up; Class AA Final Four

Former Player’s playing in college: Bernard Pelote (Western Carolina); Preston Crisp (Coker); Zion Powers (LaGrange College)

Outlook: The Wolverines made an impressive playoff run last season. Getting to the Class AA Final Four planted seeds for things to potentially come for the Savannah school. Coach Williams is preparing his team to finish some things left undone the previous year.

Williams would like for them to win a region championship and get to the state championship game. When you have the players returning to the program and the Wolverines’ schedule these goals can be achieved.

Ross is one of the more underrated point guards in the state. He is a leader and a hard-nose player on both ends of the floor. Walker will run the floor and anchor the interior for the Wolverines. Both players are the backbone of the team and lay the foundation to leave behind an impression.

Woodville Tompkins will achieve all of the expectations on its to-do list. This is a program that will be tested and prepared to play against anyone and anywhere.
