UAA New York Session III: Maker makes debut; 30-point scorers shine

ARDSLEY, NY – The third session on the Under Armour Association run to the Final made its stop in New York – The Mecca of basketball.

Teams travelled from across the country looking to secure a spot in the Final stop of the circuit. Those in attendance were treated to tight ball games. They also had the opportunity to Thon Maker and a number of players fill up the basket for 30-plus points on the day.

O’ Canada has reloaded

Canada Elite came to the Big Apple with Thon Maker the biggest star on the high school scene. Maker, from Orangeville Prep, is one of the top players in the class regardless of classification of 2015 or 2016.

The 7-footer recorded a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebound in a 57-52 win over Team Charlotte. This was his debut on the Under Armour Circuit since he has played on Nike’s EYBL and Adidas’ Uprising. Maker is being recruited heavily by Arizona State, Indiana, Kentucky and Kansas.

After the high school season, Maker had pondered re-classifying up to the class of 2015, which would make him eligible for the 2016 NBA draft. However, he is expected to finishes his classes in the fall before joining a college program at semester break for the 2015-2016 college season.

30-for-30 Club

Several players came into the City That Never Sleeps and made defenders restless.

Kam McGusty, Alani Moore, Myles Cale and Dewan Huell delivered some of the best performances on Saturday scoring 30-points on the day.

McGusty, from the Houston Defenders, had a 31-point outburst against Team Breakdown 85-70. This followed Friday’s 38-point effort. It is the third time this spring the Seven Lakes High prospect has recorded a 30-point game during the UA Sessions.

Breakdown’s Huell won the game and the scoring total of the day. The 6-foo-11 Miami Norland product had 37-points and 14 rebounds.

Moore, from DC Premier, had 34 points in a 60-54 win over Earl Watson Elite. Not to go unnoticed as Cale also recorded back-to-back 30 point games. He scored 31 points in a 66-61 lose to Team Charlotte. This followed the 30-point outburst against Canada Elite on Friday.
