SENECA FALLS, NY – Despite missing a few players because of prior obligations, the Central Western Red girls team kept it together.

Not having a full roster, however, did not affect the teams ability to play as a unit. This camaraderie helped Central Western capture the 14U girls Finger Lakes Slam Fest championship on Sunday at New York Chiropractic College. Central Western beat WNY Shock 42-33.

“We work really well as a team,” said assistant coach Kaitlin Hammersley. “We got out and played hard.”

Central Western’s adjustments all weekend came because the team has multi-sport athletes who were dealing with fatigue and the heat. This was no excuse Central Western as its mission was to win the title.

It controlled the game for most of the game with its defense over the Shock. Central Western held on when WNY just refused to go away. However, the cushion early helped secure the title.
