SENECA FALLS, NY – When it comes to championship Sunday of any tournament it is important to understand the grind to win the entire thing.
The Roc City Ballers experienced it themselves needing to win five games before capturing the 17U boys Finger Lakes Slam Fest championship. RCB beat D-Squad 65-60 at New York Chiropractic College.
“It was tough,” said a relieved RCB coach Al Nash. “We had to win five games to win the title. We got after it.”
Fatigue started to show on both teams, especially RCB. The Rochester-based organization had to hold off a feisty D-Squad, which attacked the basket relentlessly. Both teams traded baskets throughout the game with no one have a lead larger than eight points.
RCB eventually took control when Arnez Huseinovic muscled up inside for an offensive rebound and basket. This gave RCB some cushion 58-50.
D-Squad fought back behind the duo of Landon Johnson and Romel Poole. The Utica-based organization had Poole, a Proctor High freshman, causing plenty of problems. He led D-Squad with 17 points. Johnson, from Proctor High, chipped in with 13 points.
Christian Simmons lead all scorers with 23 points. RCB’s Brian Fobbs added 12 points in the victory.

There was a kid on Roc City Ballers that also plays for Bishop Kearney alongside Q. Rose that impressed me. This kid has a game. His name is Brian Fobbs. He is a very well rounded player that is under rated. Keep an eye out for him. He may make some noise in future
We will make sure to keep a close on him the nest time RCB is playing.
FYI This team just won another tournament in Syracuse NY. The Syracuse Pre Nationals put on by Ohio Basketball without Q. Rose. This is a good team and the Kid Brian Fobbs had an outstanding tournament. They beat the Syracuse Select in championship game.
I am glad to see they are doing great. This is a a good team with the players they have without a doubt. If the coach shoots me some information regarding the tournament I will be glad to put something together. As I mentioned, I will look to keep track of Brian and the rest of the RCB players.
