SENECA FALLS, NY – ICC Truth entered the tournament looking to get better in running its formations and set. The Rochester-based organization did more than that by Sunday afternoon.
Truth cruised to a 55-34 win over the RAP Thunder at New York Chiropractic College for the Finger Lakes Slam Fest 15U championship. This is one of the few events the Truth plays within the area and made sure to leave its mark.
“Our goal was to use this tournament as a warm-up,” Truth coach Kevin Goode said. “We normally play a competitive travel schedule.”
For a good portion of the travel season ICC Truth is playing tournaments in Ohio, New Jersey or Pennsylvania. Many times it finds itself in some heated and competitive situations. This tune-up was about getting its execution better.
Goode feels the team did just that this weekend.
“We improved on being able to run our sets,” he said. “Teams try to slow us down. We have to not allow teams to get into their defense.”
One of the other improvements for the Truth was finding another player with some energy and offensive punch. Mecca McCullough, from Wilson Magnet, provided the shot in the arm the Truth needed this tournament. The 2018 product was also the team-leading scorer throughout the weekend averaging about 13 points a game.
