Marietta, GA – Georgia has built up a solid reputation for having competitive teams while growing its basketball foothold in the Southeast.
The State of Kentucky may have something to say.
Western (9-1) has come into the Lemon Street Classic and exerted its will in the first two days of the third annual event. The Warriors beat Alexander 61-49. Western advances to play Etowah on Wednesday night.
Before the Warriors could move on they needed to scrap and secure the win over Alexander. Western’s defense forced the Cougars into minimal shot attempts in the second-half.
Leading the way for the Kentucky-based school was Trent Hinkle. The unsigned senior point guard finished with 17 points. He was a relentless on ball defender, who would not give up. Sophomore Jayden Miles chipped in with 13 points. Sophomore Julius Edmonds scored 11 points.
Alexander (8-2) could not get its perimeter scoring going in the second half scoring 20-points in the final two quarters. Senior Jay Quan Nelson led the Cougars with a game-high 29-points knocking down seven 3-pointers. Junior Braeden Lue contributed with nine points.
